Katie Nott- violin and viola
Biography
Katie has taught at Austin Strings since 2003. She has over 15 years teaching experience and more than 25 years playing experience. Katie graduated from Lake Forest College where she studies violin performance and studio art. She completed her Master of Fine Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design. as a freelance musician, Katie performs and records with local bands, strings quartets and ensembles. She currently plays in the Austin Civic Orchestra. Past orchestras include the Temple symphony, Dekalb Symphony, North Shore Symphony, Hillsdale College Community Orchestra. She participated in the Ohio All-state and region orchestras and also the Fort Wayne youth symphony while growing up, so she is well acquainted with the audition process and can help students prepare for solo work as well as auditions.
Lesson Information:
For students ages 6 and over a classical technique and style with some fiddle is her main focus. In the beginning there is a focus on Note reading, theory, tone quality and Rhythm. When a student advances then dynamics, bowing style, vibrato, are introduced. An advanced player will begin shifting, and double-stops. Overall emphasis for all students on intonation, scales and how to get the most out of practicing in order to gain a skill that will last a lifetime. A fall and spring recital are part of lessons.
